Missouri Botanical Garden Engagement | Cody+Kristie!

Hello everyone! Liana here, and I’m excited to be sharing this engagement session from way back at the end of May! Cody and Kristie traveled in to visit family, and we managed to squeeze in a beautiful (albeit, hot!) engagement session at the Missouri Botanical Gardens! This is one of my favorite spaces in St. Louis, and I am so glad I finally got to photograph a session there! Check out their gorgeous photos below <3

Updates + Apologies!

Hello everyone! Long time, no posts over here on our end. Katie and myself have been extremely busy with our full-time jobs plus our family lives, that we have swayed away from our photography business and everything else that comes with it, including new posts to Facebook, Instagram, and of course, our blog. We haven’t even updated our website to add new work! So I wanted to take the time today to send out a blog post about our upcoming wedding season, our goals for 2019/2020, and give you guys an update on what has been going on in the past two months!

Right after our last post (Feb. 12th), my hard drive crashed. I lost a good deal of older images; however, the majority of them were saved thanks to the cloud and the photos app on my Mac. During that time, I was forced to re-edit two sessions I had previously done and finished, which took a while. Katie was starting a new position at work, requiring her to work every other Saturday, giving us less time to photograph anything.

Towards the end of February and beginning of March, we focused all of our free time on prepping for the Kansas City Bridal Expo that took place March 23-24th. I had some family problems take place right at the beginning of March, and when I wasn’t at work, I was at home helping out. I barely had time to look at Facebook, let alone go out and take photos.

The wedding show in March was extremely stressful and costly, and Katie and I have decided it’s in our best interest to not do another one. We would like to stay the small business that we are currently, so we can devote more time to getting to know our wedding clients and making their wedding day absolutely perfect. While we loved meeting new brides-to-be, we both had panic attacks throughout the process and neither of us were happy about it.

After the wedding show, Katie and I got together and re-evaluated our business. We both decided that our photography business will stay a side business, as neither of us are looking to make this our full time job. We both currently have full time jobs that pay our bills, and our wedding business is just a little bonus to help out with vacations or home expenses. After working out our new goals, we both felt at ease going forward with K&L Photography.

Fast forward to this month. I’ve been traveling for work and Katie has been working every other Saturday, not to mention late nights and traveling back and forth to see her family near St. Louis. As I type this, I’m sitting in my friend’s apartment in Memphis, TN, where I am for work this week. Thankfully I have some free time, and I am able to travel around the area and get back to photographing the things that inspired me to start this venture in the first place: being in nature. Of course I love to photograph weddings, but being out and taking photos of flowers and landscapes is where I got my love of photography from.

So what does this mean for the future? Yes, we will still be photographing weddings. We have 3 this upcoming year, with our first being on June 1st. We also have a few family sessions and engagement sessions as well. We will be posting less often, maybe 1-2 blogs per month, and we will be focusing on all the aspects of what we photograph. We appreciate everyone’s continued support, and we apologize for being absent for so long. Our next blog post will be in two weeks, which gives Katie and I some time to edit our sessions and get them out there for you all to see!

All Together!

Hello everyone! Liana here, and I’m thrilled to finally be sharing this family session from Christmas Eve! I’ve been having some hard drive issues, but everything has been resolved, which means we’re back to regularly blogging on Tuesdays!

Cheryl and I met in 2017 through a networking group. We’ve kept in touch, and when she reached out about having her family all together for Christmas and wanting to capture it, I was more than happy to help! Not only were Cheryl and Wayne’s children all in town (including one who came from Saudi Arabia!), but her daughter, Mary, had her in-laws in town all the way from Germany! It was great getting to work with this big family, and I’m happy to say they absolutely loved their images! Check them out below!

Bianculli Family!

Hello everyone, and welcome to our first blog post of 2019! It’s Liana, and I am so excited to be sharing this beautiful family with you all! All seven of them were troopers, and met me on Main Street in old town St. Charles at 8am, three days before Christmas! Needless to say, the weather was less than perfect, but it didn’t get their spirits down!

Courtney contacted me through Facebook, wanting to book a family session as a gift for her mom. Originally set to be eight people (family + significant others), Zach’s girlfriend Carrie unfortunately couldn’t make it, but he did bring his dog, Zeus! Seven humans and two dogs in total makes for a hilarious photo shoot! Thank goodness I still had dog bags in my pocket from leaving the house haha. We had a great time wandering around Main Street, and the Christmas decorations were the perfect touch! Check out the photos below <3

2018 Garden Glow!

Hello everyone! Liana here, and I apologize for the late post! It’s been a crazy month, but we’re almost done and on to 2019! Tonight’s post is short and sweet. At the beginning of the month I had the chance to visit the Missouri Botanical Gardens, and the annual event they hold, Garden Glow! It features over 1,000,000 lights, turning the garden into a winter wonderland! It’s absolutely beautiful, and a joy to photograph. Check out a few photos below! :)

Next week we won’t be having a blog post, seeing as Christmas falls on Tuesday this year! We will, however, be blogging on New Year’s Eve! Merry Christmas everyone!

Venodr Hi-Lite: Spoil Me Sweetly!

Hello all! Liana here, and I’m super excited to be sharing this blog! For a while, Katie and I have been throwing the idea around of doing some posts specifically highlighting some of our favorite wedding vendors in both the STL and KC areas! I can’t promise that this is going to be a regular thing, but we are working on a list to go ahead and start getting together with some of our favorites!

Today we are featuring the amazing Spoil Me Sweetly, which is owned and operated by my good friend, Abby Benz! Abby started her business several years ago as a side project, considering she has a full time job and teaches as well! This year, Abby made it a point to make Spoil Me Sweetly a little more of a full-time priority, and joined a commissary bakery in Chesterfield, called The Bakers Hub! It opened early November, and has been a huge success! Abby has so much talent and creativity that she brings into every single work she does, whether it be a wedding cake, custom cupcakes, cookies, or even donuts! We love working with Abby, and plan to work with her early next 2019 for a styled wedding shoot!

If you are ever in the area, make sure to check out The Bakers Hub! Or, if you just have an event that needs some sweet treats, contact her directly! Abby is always willing to bring your vision to life in dessert form. Check out her work over at www.spoilmesweetly.com! For now, check out some work we did for her recently to help her get some professional images up on her website!

Look who's ONE!

Good evening, everyone!

Katie here, and tonight’s blog post is a little short (but definitely sweet). I’m sharing some images from my daughter, Ember’s, first birthday party! We had two separate parties, one in STL and one here in KC, and of course she was spoiled at both. They first party she was a little slow at eating the cake and she didn’t want to keep her headband on (second party was better), but before long she was tearing into it. It’s hard to believe that Ember is already one, and today she got her first tooth!!

I hope you enjoy these photos of our little one!

Future Mr. & Mrs. | Smart Engagement

Good evening, friends!

Katie here, and I’m so excited to be sharing some more images from Kyle and Chrystal’s engagement session from October! It was a cool afternoon at Capen Park in Columbia, Missouri but these two did great! We had to climb a little bit to get the views at the beginning, but we (thankfully) survived and the views were sooo worth it! AND they brought their pups, even better right?!

Kyle is my friend Paige’s brother in law, I photographed her maternity session a few years ago and actually photographed her wedding some years ago, so I’m very excited to be capturing Kyle and Chrystal’s special day next year!

I hope you enjoy tonight’s blog blog, stay tuned for their wedding day next year… I have a feeling it’s going to be fantastic!

Be sure to be on the lookout for the full blog post soon, and enjoy this sneak peek in the meantime!

Why Two? | A little info

Good evening, everyone!

Katie here, and tonight we’re doing a something a little different. Liana and I thought a quick blog about the benefits of having two photographers for your wedding day would be a good idea.

Many regret not spending money on the photography section of their wedding, and a lot of people think cutting out a photographer can save money. I can’t tell you how many times I hear “I wish I would’ve spent the money and gotten a better photographer”. At the end of the day, when the cake is cut and the guests are gone, the only thing you’ll really have left are your photographs.

A lot of people question as to why they should have two photographers photographing the same thing, but we can tell you that there are several reasons why- here’s just a few!

  1. Walk down the aisle

The moment you see your future Mr./Mrs. at the end of the aisle is always a favorite. Getting your reaction seeing your partner, your partner seeing you, AND your parents reactions is a must! Getting all of the reactions when there’s only one photographer isn’t likely. With two photographers, one of us is at each end of the aisle, ready to capture those perfect reactions.

  2. Moments across the room/Different perspectives

There is so much that happens on your special day, and you’ll be so busy you won’t realize what’s going on on the other side of the room! It’s these little moments that can make the best memories- your grandma dancing, the little kids chasing each other across the dance floor, or even just catching that smile on the groom when he spots his bride across the floor. Two photographers means double the coverage, which means no moment is missed!

  3. Getting ready

Having two photographers means one photographer is with the bride and bridesmaids, while the other is with the groom and groomsmen. Some of the funniest pictures come from these moments while everyone is laid back having a good time (and possibly a mimosa?).

  4. Backup if something’s missed

While we all hope that nothing stops us from getting that perfect shot, sometimes things happen- such as a guest stepping in front of the photographer so we can’t capture that special moment. Two photographers means double the coverage to make sure no moment- big or small is missed.

These are just a few things that show why two photographers is so important! Luckily for you, the prices you receive when booking with K&L Photography always include 2 photographers! We hope this post gives you a peek into our jobs and know that we always work hard to capture your day!
